Heat Shield Technology

What Is Heat Shield?

New Technology

Heat Shield is the brand new door skin technology from GAP’s Cosmopolitan door panel range that helps puts an end to problematic woodgrain door panels.

For decades now, this industry has been plagued with negative connotations of woodgrain door panels due to the heat expansion that can occur causing cracking, warping and bubbling. Having manufactured panels for over 15 years, GAP has experienced these problems first hand, which is why for many years we have been searching for a solution to help overcome this problem.

"put simply, this is the biggest single improvement to take place in the door panel industry for over 20 years"

False Promises

Despite many promises from many manufacturers over the years, no-one to date has presented a solution that can actively prevent the heat from the sun being absorbed into the panel itself. Polycarbonate sheets were once hailed as the saviour of woodgrain panels, whilst many other companies have fallen by the wayside such as PDL (now part of Hurst Plastics) due to them not being able to live up to their promises.

The Solution

GAP now has a woodgrain foil specifically formulated to help solve the problems of cracking, warping and bubbling. Heat Shield has been designed for door panels and prevents the heat being absorbed into the substrate therefore acting as a white door would do.

GAP is first to use this advanced technology in the UK and Heat Shield is the first door product with it. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to give customers products that put them ahead of the competition.

"At last we can provide a product which will enable you to go out and proactively sell woodgrain doors that match window profiles without worrying about the products performance"

Whilst the overriding benefit of Heat Shield is its protection from the sun, it also provides many more unique benefits as listed below.

  • Superior scratch resistance
  • Superior abrasion resistance
  • Superior thickness
  • Weathering
  • Embossed finish
  • Retention of embossing
  • Exact match to window and door frame
  • BBA accreditation
